it's easy to budget when u have money
i make $53,000 a year before taxes. after taxes, health insurance, and retirement contributions, that’s about $1500 every two weeks. here’s a breakdown of what my budget looks like based on the last two month’s spending:
$300 per month on groceries
$50 per month on fun shit
$350 per month on clothes (this is abnormal i only buy clothes once a year)
$130 per month on utilities
$1100 per month on rent
$100 per month on gas / travel
total: $2030 per month
actual total (excluding clothes): 2380
this means i have about $1000 left over to spend on whatever i want. you may notice that the clothes are included in the budget and not in the “spend on whatever i want” and that’s just bc of how YNAB sorted it and i copied what it shows there. in reality, i have about $1350 a month to spend on whatever i want.
at the moment, i invest that money. currently, my actual investments account has $3000 in it and my for fun investments account has $660 in it. i’m up about 3% on my current investments, which i started putting money into in february. i’ve invested in a few things: ARKG, ARKK, OGIG, PSI, TAN, TSLA, and VOO.
i plan on holding these positions at least for a year, and as long as 10 years, while expanding my portfolio and continuing to invest money into those same stocks.
since i started my job one year ago i’ve put about $8800 into my retirement account.
before this job, i hardly saved any money, i never made more than $13,000 in a year, and i never invested any money. even when i lived at home with my mom and had very light expenses, it took me 9 months of working to get together about $2500 so i could move, and it took leah the same time to get the same amount of money.
as it is now, though, i hardly budget. i just punch in the numbers of the shit i buy. i don’t put hard limits on how much i spend on anything, i never consider my bank account before making a purchase, i don’t hold back from buying food or clothes or fun stuff because i am worried about running out of money. i just buy shit as i see fit and keep it pushing. not once since i started using YNAB have i considered how much i budgeted for a purchase prior to making the purchase.
leah and i are saving to buy a house and we’ll be able to do that pretty soon. we set are goal at having $15,000 by July, and we’re more than on track at the moment. if things keep at this pace, we’ll be at about $17,000 or $18,000 by then. a year from july we will, ideally, be at about about $30,000, or $35,000.
idk, just felt like writing it down.

a brief note: this playlist is a selection of songs by artists that are signed to the label True Panther. i like a lot of the artists on True Panther so i figured it would be nice to put together some of my favorite tracks by one of my favorite labels, and i think that’s how the next few playlists will be as well.
